Real Time Monitoring

Setup monitoring for full-stack visibility in minutes and enjoy immediate insights for all your infrastructure components. With just a few clicks you can configure monitoring and alerting for all your critical systems, applications and databases, and have peace of mind that Polaris will proactively notify you of any potential problems.

Polaris Key Differentiators

Typical monitoring products offer a variety of out-of-the-box metrics and alerts. This is great, but most of the time, your IT staff has already developed custom scripts that are tailored to monitoring and alerting custom applications and databases. In addition to Polaris offering out-of-the-box metrics and alerts functionality, it also provides an easy-to-use interface where administrators can setup their own custom metric and alert definitions. This leverages existing investments in intellectual property and extends the usefulness and effectiveness of the monitoring solution.

For example, suppose that Mary is your administrator in charge of the Payroll application, a custom application developed in-house that leverages an Oracle database. Mary has setup several custom SQL scripts to monitor the status and progress of various payroll jobs by querying internal application tables. With Polaris, Mary can take the same scripts and within minutes add them as metric and alert definitions, thus leveraging what she has already built and has been accustomed to using. In addition, her custom alerts can be combined with other out-of-the-box alerts to create more complex conditions. For example, a custom alert that detects when a batch job exceeds a certain execution time threshold can be combined with out-of-the-box CPU and memory metrics to create a composite alert. This is the power of Polaris!

Polaris Key features

Dynamic Alerting: Using alert intelligence, a rules-based driven approach, Polaris allows you to set up simple and complex alerts. You can select metrics from an extended list or create your own definitions of custom metrics. Polaris allows you to combine multiple metrics together and create composite alert conditions. Alerts include noise reduction features so that you do not unnecessarily page out support staff for one-time, transient or intermittent errors. Alerts can also be configured to detect outlier conditions. Alert Blackouts allow you to suppress alerts during planned downtimes.

Log Management: Monitor and alert based on log file contents. Create correlations across multiple log files for advanced event diagnosis and troubleshooting.

Dynamic Alert Routing: Configure routing of alerts based on a variety of criteria such as time of day, type of alert, host system, type of host system, custom tags, and many, many more criteria.

Self-Healing and Course Correct: Polaris includes multiple out-of-the-box self-healing capabilities. For example, you can configure Polaris to automatically evaluate starting a database that has crashed provided certain conditions are true. To carry out these functions, Polaris uses principles of cognitive computing to simulate human thought processes and actions.

Metric Collection: Polaris includes hundreds of metrics and allows you to create user defined metrics as well. Metrics can be collected at any frequency and granularity, and can be stored based on the user’s retention requirements. Each metric can have rollup rules as well to control its granularity over time. For example, a CPU metric can be collected every 3 minutes but when data collected ages over 6 months, it is summarized to an hourly grain.

Insightful Visualizations: Polaris offers a single pane of glass to view the overall health of your systems. Drill down capabilities, granular analytics and detailed metrics allow you to view details on alerts and metrics and perform troubleshooting and root cause diagnoses.

Real-Time Metric Streaming: Polaris lets you orchestrate real-time metric streaming for performance troubleshooting and identification of performance deviations.

Custom Analyses and Dashboards: In addition to out-of-the-box visualizations, Polaris allows you to create your own custom Analyses and combined them on Dashboards along with filtering criteria and drill down capabilities. Dashboards can be shared with your team and your customers.

Advanced Analytics: Understanding patterns and detecting anomalies is not a trivial task. Polaris allows you to setup, collect and store hundreds of metrics that can be analyzed to assist in capacity planning activities and provide advanced insights and predictions. Polaris leverages machine learning and algorithmic intelligence to predict upcoming performance problems, detect the likelihood of the next alert and provide insights so you can prevent issues and avoid system outages!

Incident Management: Polaris integrates with popular ticketing and workflow products. Each alert can be configured to generate a ticket that automatically gets assigned to on-call personnel.
